Why is my policy not being renewed?
In January 2020 Legal & General Insurance Limited (renamed Fairmead Insurance Limited) was acquired by Allianz Holdings PLC. Allianz Holdings PLC own the Liverpool Victoria General Insurance Group(LV=). As a result, from your renewal date, your cover will be provided by Liverpool Victoria Pet Insurance and underwritten by Allianz Insurance PLC.
Who are Liverpool Victoria (LV=)?
LV= General Insurance is a leading insurance business offering a range of general insurance products.

What if I’ve made a claim?
LV= have taken steps to match and, in some cases, improve the cover levels from your current policy (full details will be provided within your policy pack which LV= will send to you around 28 days before your policy renewal date). We’d also like to reassure you that LV= will continue to provide cover for ongoing treatment for any illness and injuries currently covered by your current policy, subject to you continuing your cover with LV= and the terms of your new policy. Any claims for ongoing treatment provided after your renewal date will be handled by LV=. Full details of your new policy will be included in the pack LV= will send to you. (N.B. Claims made for treatment given before the renewal date will be handled by our dedicated claims team).
What do I need to do?
We’re taking care of things, so you don’t have to. LV= will send your new documents to you by post 28 days prior to your renewal. Please check these documents carefully. If you usually pay for your existing policy by debit/credit card or cheque, you’ll need to get in touch with LV= before your renewal to provide your payment details. If you pay by Direct Debit, you don’t need to do anything as LV= will have access to your details and your policy will renew automatically.
What if I don’t want to become a LV= customer?
We will write to you well in advance of the policy renewal date to provide you with details of your new LV= policy. If you do not wish to take cover with LV= you should contact them on 0330 1009 712 or by email at admin@pet.lv.co.uk to confirm this. Calls may be recorded and monitored. Call charges will vary.
Please be aware that your existing policy will end on the date of your renewal and your pet will no longer be covered by its current pet insurance policy. This means from this date all cover will stop and no further claims will be paid for any treatment that occurs after your renewal date unless you take up the offer of new cover with LV=. We’d like to highlight that it may be difficult to insure your pet elsewhere for any existing medical conditions or illnesses, whether diagnosed or not, so please make sure you’re able to get like for like cover elsewhere prior to doing so.

What if I do not want LV= to have access to my data?
It is very important that you have the option of taking continuous cover for your pet, particularly if your pet is suffering from a condition(s) that requires ongoing treatment. Your information will therefore be passed to LV= in advance of the current policy expiry date to facilitate this process.

How will my data be used?

It is important to note that, as an insurer, even if you do not wish to renew your Pet insurance policy with LV=, we will retain a legal obligation to maintain a record of the Insurance cover we have sold and, as such, Allianz will maintain an archive of your previous policy(s) in the event of any queries in this respect.
Will it be the same cost?
LV= use different pricing structures which are based on their own experience of providing pet insurance policies to a wide range of customers. LV= have carefully calculated your premium based on over 40 years’ experience of providing pet insurance to millions of pet owners like you, using factors such as the age, breed, location and claims history of your pet.
Any claims that you made on your existing policy may have previously contributed to an increase in your premium at renewal. A number of factors impact your premium, such as your pet’s age, increased veterinary costs, advancements in veterinary medicine and claims you have made. These mean your premium will increase at each policy renewal and over the lifetime of your policy. There could be a substantial impact on your renewal premium depending on the combination of factors that have to be taken into consideration. Changing your address may affect the premium at your next renewal.
I have a claim that is not yet settled, will this cause any delays?
No, please submit your claim for any treatment that occurred before the renewal date to our dedicated claims team in the normal way. This will not impact on LV= having access to your information and the onward contact process. Furthermore, you can continue to submit claims to us for treatment that your vet has given to your pet up to the renewal date of your policy even if you decide not to take an onward policy with LV=.
Will LV= have the details about the claims I have made for my pet?
Yes, LV= will have access to all previous claims information. We’d like to reassure you that LV= will continue to provide cover for ongoing treatment for any illness and injuries currently covered by your existing policy, subject to you arranging your onward policy with LV= and the terms of your new policy.
I have multiple pets insured with you with different renewal dates, will my multi pet discount be removed?
Your multi-pet discount will still apply to each of your policies as your new cover starts with LV=.
Am I free to shop around for other cover?
You can of course shop around to make sure you have the right level of cover you need at the right price. It is important you have the correct cover so that you’re protected should your pet require treatment in the future.

What if I want to stay with L&G?

What if I am not happy with the cover provided?
The full details of your new policy will be included in the pack LV= will send to you. It’s important that you read through this pack and check your cover meets your needs. Your new LV= policy includes some cover enhancements compared to your existing policy (the details will be included within the pack from LV=). If you have any questions about your level of cover, or to discuss the other pet insurance products that LV= can provide, please call LV= on 0330 1009 712 to discuss this further. What if I do not want to insure my pet with LV=?

What if I need more time to think about moving over?
Your current pet insurance policy is an annual renewable contract with a fixed renewal date, which means your existing policy will expire on the renewal date. We appreciate that the process is different this year, so we have taken the additional step of contacting you well in advance of your renewal date to give you more time to consider your options.

I want to change the way I pay. Currently I pay annually, and I want to pay monthly how do I do this and is there a charge for this?

You can spread your premium payments over 12 months at no extra cost and this change can be actioned as your new policy is set up.
What do I do if I want to discuss my policy or make a change before my next renewal?
Your policy will not be moved to LV= until your next renewal date (You will receive communications from us and LV= immediately prior to the renewal date of your policy).
